K&N's Universal Air Filters are designed and manufactured for a wide variety of applications. Regardless of the angle, offset diameter of the air intake, there is a K&N Universal air filter for most applications. All filters are constructed with ultra-strong moulded pliable rubber flanges which absorb vibration and allow for secure attachment and can also be stretched for up to 1/16" (1.5mm) to fit in-between sizes. K&N Universal air filters are available in round, tapered and oval designs, for just about any special application. K&N Universal Clamp on Air Filters

1. First you need to know the power output (BHP) of your engine - the manufacturers flywheel figure.

2. Select a suitable shape and clamp/flange size. Check the filters BHP rating, making sure it is the same or more than the engines BHP. Note: K&N Flanges will stretch up 2mm* or down 3mm.

3. Check underbonnet clearance using plasticine method of checking.

HORIZONTAL FITTING
Very long filters may need some end support particularly if used in off-road events.

EXTERNALY MOUNTING FILTERS

Athough K&N filters are unaffected by water, air flow can be reduced as water and air are drawn through the filter element. K&N’s unique oiled cotton gauze construction changes the water into a fine mist which will not affect the engine apart from a possible increase in power. External filters can be sized up to 50%larger.

MAXIMUM FLOW

Occurs on most air filters when the filter height (less top and bottom seals, 12mm = the base diameter e.g

Example using round straight clamp-on filter RU-0600:
RU-0600 x 1 = 125 BHP
RU-0600 x 2 = 200 BHP
RU-0600 x 3 = 230 BHP
RU-0600 x 4 = 275 BHP

fitting more than one filter use the following formula

TWO STROKE ENGINES

Quoted BHP figures must be halved as two strokes consume double the air

NOTES ON TURBOCHARGERS AND SUPERCHARGERS
Because Turbo's and Superchargers do not rely on atmospheric pressure but rather forced induction, lower rated filters can be used.
As a rough guide you can normally increase the quoted BHP figure by 80% (more as boost pressures increase).
So the RU-0600 in the example above will easily cope with a BHP of 225 in a vehicle with a turbo.

Always use the standard sized filter where practical and the largest possible filter when used in dusty off-road conditions.
